The Oakley Meta Vanguard was launched as the second smart eyeglass from Oakley after HSTN in July. The Vanguard looks like sunglasses used by extreme sports athletes with a camera placed in the middle to capture better video footage.
There is an image stabilization system that allows the Vanguard to function like an action camera. The Oakley PRIZM lens of the glasses wraps around the wearer's face, blocking out the glare of the sun. The camera in the middle is a 12MP with a 122° ultra-wide lens that can record 3K video. It passes the IP67 waterproof standard for various extreme sports activities.
The speaker built into the stem is the loudest Meta has ever offered and can still be heard even in 30 mph winds. There is a physical action button that the owner can program to record specific activities as well as Meta AI integration just like other Meta AI glasses. Playing music, answering the phone and requesting information can be done with just voice commands.
Through Strava and Garmin integration, data such as distance traveled, speed and heart rate from the smartwatch can be displayed in recorded videos that can then be shared synchronously to social media under the Meta umbrella. Each Vanguard can operate for up to 9 hours on a single charge or 36 hours with a charging case.
Oakley Meta Vanguard is sold for a starting price of $499 (~RM 2093) a pair in a choice of black or white frames and Prizm Sapphire, Prizm Road, Prizm Black and Prizm 24K lenses.
