Budget 2026: Malaysia Towards AI Nation Status by 2030



By 2030, which is about 5 years away, the government aims to make the country an artificial intelligence nation by 2030. In parallel, various investments focusing on artificial intelligence are being made.


This includes RM20 million to the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) in developing highly skilled talent, strengthening digital infrastructure, and creating an efficient AI ecosystem. In addition, the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at UTM will also be upgraded.


Local universities will also focus on critical majors in the technology arena, including USM focusing on semiconductors, UM focusing on medicine, UPM focusing on cryptology.


Not only that, the government also touched on ILMU which will be launched as the country's first AI Language Model, a collaboration between UM and YTL AI Labs.
