Cases of Fake Claims Using AI-Generated Receipts on the Rise

Be careful if you work in the human resources department because cases of fake claims by employees are on the rise, according to a Financial Times report. Fake receipts are generated using artificial intelligence (AI) applications from Google and OpenAI, which are now increasingly being promoted in the workplace.

According to a study by AppZen, 14% of receipts in September were labeled as fake, compared to zero last year. At the same time, the firm Ramp said that their software. detection detected $1 million worth of fake receipts within 90 days of launch.

AI models are now powerful enough to generate images that look quite realistic compared to a year ago. The Gemini Nano Banana model is one of the most viral models recently because it can generate images of fans with idols that are difficult to distinguish. Meanwhile, the OpenAI-generated video Sora is now flooding social media, fooling the majority of users.

When AI technology was announced less than five years ago, we were promised a future where document processing tasks at work could be simplified, emails answered quickly and analysis could be done in seconds. But now it is confirmed that it only creates a work-around that adds to the work of fact-checking and helps dishonest staff lie about daily expenses.
