OpenAI today shared that their ChatGPT service is now used by 800 million active users every week. This shows a drastic increase in terms of usage of the service, after reaching 700 million weekly active users in August 2025.
With this, it shows that 10% of the population on Earth now uses ChatGPT every week – and makes it one of the main services accessed by everyone every week.
ChatGPT was previously introduced to the public in November 2022, which showed its usage increasing drastically, while also opening up the race in the artificial intelligence arena involving everyone around the world, including internet giants such as Google and Microsoft. OpenAI itself has added a number of features to their service, including voice-based query support, image generation capabilities, and even video generation capabilities.
Currently, OpenAI is not yet profitable, and is currently actively developing infrastructure to enable them to continue to accommodate user usage and demand, as well as providing computing for next-generation models.
