The RAM crisis is predicted to continue until 2027 according to a Nikkei Asia report. Global RAM manufacturers said they will only be able to meet 60% of customer RAM demand next year, causing memory prices to remain high.
Demand for RAM from the artificial intelligence (AI) sector is still increasing despite some predictions that the bubble will burst. Prices will continue to remain high, not helped by the West Asian crisis, which has also caused the cost of energy and raw materials to increase. More worryingly for ordinary consumers, the report predicts that demand and production will only return to normal in 2028.
Prices of new and old devices have started to increase due to the global RAM crisis. We have seen the prices of PlayStation 4, Microsoft Surface, Meta Quest 3, Lenovo Legion 2 and several older Samsung models increase over the past four weeks. Meanwhile, the prices of new smartphone models are up to RM600 more expensive than last year's models.
