Counterpoint: Lenovo and Apple Record Highest Sales as Microsoft Ends Windows 10 Support

About two weeks ago, Microsoft ended support for updates to its Windows 10 operating system. This forced people to upgrade to Windows 11, and for those using older computers that do not meet the specifications required for the new operating system, they seem to have to buy new computers.

Recently, Counterpoint, a market research firm, reported that total sales of computers of various sizes have increased by 8.1 percent year-on-year, with companies such as Lenovo, Apple and ASUS being shown as the three companies with the highest year-on-year sales increases.

The Counterpoint report said that Lenovo has shown a 17.4 percent increase in sales in the third quarter of 2025 when compared to the same period last year. Apple also showed a 14.9 percent increase in sales, while ASUS recorded a 14 percent increase in sales in the same quarter.

ASUS also recorded its highest quarter-on-quarter sales increase in the third quarter of 2025 with a sales increase of 22.5 percent.

The same report said that Dell recorded a sales decline of one percent, and several other brands combined also recorded a sales decline of 3 percent.

From this report, we can see that even though consumers are forced to buy new laptops due to Microsoft's decision to end support for older operating systems, they still have the power to choose, with many of them seeming to have chosen more well-known brands and known for their quality.

Apple has also recently launched the Apple Macbook Pro laptops with their latest Apple M5 processing chip, and this is expected to further increase their laptop sales for those who may want to switch from using the Microsoft Windows operating system.
