The Oppo Find X is now entering its eighth generation with the launch of the latest Find X9 model. While this numbering may be confusing to some, it actually continues the continuity from the fifth generation as they once skipped the fourth generation branding. Throughout its evolution, the Find X series has been an experimental space for Oppo to introduce various unique new technologies.
Ahead of its launch in Malaysia, I had the opportunity to see the Find X9 series in person early. This experience allowed me to evaluate the physical and design aspects of the device more closely. For now, I can only share about the external design as most of the key features of this market model have yet to be revealed to the public.
As usual, two models will be offered to users, namely the Find X9 and Find X9 Pro. The most eye-catching thing this time is the new design that no longer uses a curved finish. Instead, both models come with a boxy and completely flat design on the front and back.
This design is not only comfortable to hold without hurting your hands, but the four minimalist curves at each corner also help provide a better user experience. Although this approach was used on the Find X8 before, Oppo now fully uses the design on both versions of the Find X9.
The boxy screen design also makes it easier for users to find screen protectors while helping to reduce the issue of content overflowing from the display. As a result, the display looks neater and more immersive. However, the choice of this design still depends on the taste and comfort of each user.
The use of matte finish as the main component can help reduce the effects of fingerprint stains that are easily visible on the surface of the device. In addition, it also looks attractive because it is not too shiny especially when exposed to light reflection. However, the choice of this finish depends on individual taste since it is subjective. Some like it while others prefer a glossy finish.
There are several color options offered and among the most eye-catching is the Velvet Red color on the Find X9 as I hold it. The color reminds me of the Vivo V50 Encora Red model but this Oppo version looks more striking and not too bright like Vivo. Oppo seems to have chosen a simple and pleasing color tone, especially for female users.
If you think that the color of the device will be covered when using a protective case, you are actually wrong. This is because Oppo also includes a protective case with a color that matches the body of the device, thus making the original color visible. This approach has been used by Oppo before, especially on the Find N3 model where the frame and body of the device are present in the same color for a more uniform appearance.
The Pro model is also attractive in its class and still maintains the premium feel that is the identity of the Find X series. The design and finish used give an elegant touch without compromising on quality. As usual, the back of the device also places Oppo branding as the main identity.
Holding both devices does not show any significant differences in terms of physicality. Both use a square-shaped camera bump, marking a design change from the round bump used since the Find X6 to a style more similar to the latest Reno series.
This change may be in line with the current trend as many users are more inclined to devices with a square camera design. However, if you look closely, the only design difference between the two models is on the Pro version which uses one of the square-shaped sensors.
This indicates that the Pro version has the potential to offer higher zoom capabilities. It is not surprising since most manufacturers today also focus on telephoto technology with long-distance zoom capabilities. The front screen still maintains a hole-punch design in the middle for the selfie camera.
This year, Oppo stated that they have managed to shrink the bezels on all parts of the device. The size of this bezel is smaller than the previous Find X8 model, thus providing a wider display and a more immersive viewing experience.
Find X9 and Find X9 Pro still maintain the standard button layout like the previous device with the power button and audio controls located on the right. Meanwhile, the left side of both versions is equipped with Snap Key, a new button that allows quick access to the AI MySpace feature where just one touch is enough to save the entire screen content.
For the Pro version, there is an additional Quick Button that has also been upgraded that allows users to take a picture with one tap and open the camera application with two taps automatically.
Both models support IP68 and IP69 waterproof features which make them durable in various situations. In addition, they are also equipped with a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that can be used even when the hand is wet, which makes the unlocking process easier and more comfortable.
Conclusion
Overall, Find X9 comes with a neater design. At the same time, it brings a new direction that Oppo is trying to highlight in the flagship device segment with a focus on innovation and better user experience. I will share more information about the performance and other features of the model in the local market in an upcoming review article.
