Grab today announced that it is investing in May Mobility, supporting the company's development of self-driving technology, and aims to bring robotex technology to the Southeast Asia region as early as 2026. In addition to investing in May Mobility, Grab will also offer mapping data, allowing the self-driving technology to learn about infrastructure and road conditions in Southeast Asia.
For now, the earliest countries that will receive it are still unknown. May Mobility only said that it intends to bring its autonomous system technology to Southeast Asia as early as 2026. However, it is still subject to various permissions from the authorities. May Mobility is ready to work with Uber and Lyft in offering services to customers.
In addition to May Mobility, Grab has also previously invested in robotex service provider WeRide in an effort to offer the same service in Southeast Asia.
