Instagram is currently testing a major update that will integrate Reels content into the app’s main view. This means that users will no longer be able to see photos separately but will instead be presented with a video stream every time the app is opened.
A screenshot shared shows the new view with the message ‘Reels now live in Home’ which makes it easier for users to enjoy video content continuously. Instagram will also introduce a new tab called Following which will allow users to see content from all the accounts they follow.
The change marks a major shift from Instagram’s original identity as a photo-sharing platform since 2010. With an emphasis on short video content, Instagram is now increasingly resembling TikTok. The move is expected to provoke a variety of reactions, especially from users who still value Instagram’s original function as a space for sharing photos.
