JPM Denies Spread of Fake Document Related to Smartphone Ban for Underage Teenagers

The Prime Minister's Office (JPM) denies the spread of a document related to the Order Prohibiting the Use of Smartphones for Individuals Under the Age of 16 that is now going viral on the WhatsApp application. JPM explained that the document is fake and was never issued by its department.

The department also stressed that the document in question is false information and does not represent the official government stance.

JPM calls on the public to be ethical and responsible in disseminating information and ensure the authenticity of a news item before sharing it with others to avoid public confusion.

The department also reminds that disseminating false news or information is an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and may be subject to legal action.

The proposal to ban the use of smartphones for underage individuals is still in the research stage and has not been implemented. At the same time, the government is also examining a proposal to raise the minimum age limit for social media users to 16 years.
