The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will hold a strategic meeting with major social media platform providers next week to discuss the implementation of the eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) process which aims to strengthen online user security.
The meeting is scheduled to take place in Singapore and will involve the participation of relevant government agencies, as well as representatives from global technology companies including Meta, Google, X (formerly known as Twitter) and TikTok.
The implementation of the eKYC process is being implemented with the aim of strengthening online user security, especially for those under 16 years of age. This process involves the use of official identification documents such as MyKad, passport and MyDigital ID to ensure identity verification is carried out securely.
Therefore, this step is part of the government's initiative to address digital harm issues including the threat of online sexual predators. MCMC stressed that the implementation of eKYC will fully comply with the Personal Data Protection Act to ensure the security of user information is always maintained.
