Recently, the nation was shocked by the incident of a six-year-old boy being stabbed by his nine-year-old brother because the older boy's smart device was damaged by his younger brother, who had the Roblox game.
Due to this incident, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has issued a statement that they are studying the best mechanism that can be used to regulate such online games for children.
Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that the MCMC is discussing the matter, but a decision on it has not yet been made. Amendments may be made to the Online Safety Act 2025 which will be introduced next year to further enhance the safety laws for children.
He also said that the government is considering the introduction of operating licenses for 10 online games, including Roblox, so that game operators can regulate their operations to ensure that they operate under local laws.
Meanwhile, he also said that his children have been instructed to uninstall the Roblox app from their smart devices, and prohibit them from playing the game.
