MEASAT Signs Partnership to Provide Satellite Internet-Based IoT Services in Sarawak

At the ongoing IDECS 2025 in Kuching, Sarawak, the state has shown its ambition to advance a number of technical and bureaucratic processes in the state, and one of these efforts is to digitize the state’s manufacturing and manufacturing sectors.

Recently, MEASAT, a Malaysian satellite service provider, has entered into a three-way partnership with two Chinese IoT service providers, namely Beijing Guodian High-Tech Technology Co., Ltd. (“Guodian Gaoke”) and China StarWin Science & Technology Co. Ltd. (“StarWin”) to provide the services via Tianqi’s LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellite internet network in the state.

The partnership was signed between the three companies, together with the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Haji Openg and the Minister of Communications and Utilities of Sarawak, Dato Sri Haji Julaihi Haji Narawi.

Measat is the satellite internet service provider, using the Tianqi network developed by Guodian Gaoke, while StarWin will supply the satellite internet connection receiving terminal equipment on the ground.

This collaboration is part of the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 which aims for Sarawak to become a developed state, with internet network coverage reaching 96 percent throughout the state, 100 percent digitization of government services and 20 percent of the state's GDP generated by the digital economy by 2030.

Dato Sri Haji Julaihi Haji Narawi also said that IoT technology has already shown improvements to the agricultural sector, which has increased productivity by 20 percent, and higher profits.

With the IoT infrastructure to be introduced to the entire agricultural sector in the state, they expect it to increase production by as much as 50 percent, increase household income by 40 percent and reduce labor costs by 40 percent.

“We are proud to support the Sarawak Government’s vision as a SpaceTech Consultant and service provider, using satellite IoT solutions to overcome geographical challenges and drive sustainable growth. This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone for MEASAT, enabling our satellite internet capabilities to be showcased and contribute to the digital transformation of Sarawak and Malaysia.” said Yau Chyong Lim, CEO of MEASAT.
