OpenAI: America Needs to Increase Energy Resources to Compete with China in the AI Arena

It is no longer a secret that OpenAI, a US artificial intelligence technology developer, wants to build a large number of data centers to become the largest and most advanced AI platform company in the world.

With Project Stargate, the company is expected to spend $500 billion by 2030. This includes the construction of the necessary infrastructure, in addition to the use of sufficient electricity and water supply systems to power the data centers.

OpenAI has signed many agreements with various data center component suppliers such as Oracle, AMD and Broadcom for this project, and it is expected that more other investments will be needed to support its ambitions of becoming the country with the greatest AI capabilities in the world.

OpenAI recently issued a statement that the US government needs to add 100GW of electrical power supply every year because the country is seen as lagging behind in terms of power supply to power the data centers that will be built in the future.

For example, last year, the United States added about 50 Gigawatts of new electricity resources, which is very low compared to China, which added 429 Gigawatts of additional electricity resources during the same period.

Sam Altman, CEO and founder of OpenAI, recently said that “electrons are the new oil,” saying that the ability to provide electricity for new technologies being developed will determine who stays ahead in the technological world in the future.
