Usage Experience

The first time I held the Find X9 Pro, the difference compared to the previous generation was clearly felt. This is because the flat design featured this time provides a fresher user experience with a contemporary approach. It directly distinguishes the latest model from the designs used in the previous Pro series.

Oppo Find X9 Pro

Although some argue that Oppo has used a flat design since the Find X8, the previous Pro version is actually still a kind of curve on the body and screen. This concept became the main identity of the Pro series before Oppo chose to make more significant changes in this new generation.

Oppo Find X9 Pro

As someone who has followed the development of this series since its first appearance, I find that this new generation offers a different experience. Some may have noticed that the Find X6 and Find X7 were never launched globally. True, but I had the opportunity to try the Find X6 while in Bali in 2023 and held the Find X7 belonging to one of the Oppo staff from China at the Reno 11 launch in Johor Bahru.

Oppo Find X9 Pro

Back to the Find X9 Pro, I found the experience of holding it similar to using a modern iPhone due to its completely flat body design. Meanwhile, my content manager Effi likened its design to the latest Google Pixel. Whatever it feels like, I want to emphasize that this device is comfortable in the hand.

Oppo Find X9 Pro

The Find X9 Pro also shows practical design changes in line with current trends in the smartphone industry. Apart from that, this device feels balanced from every angle and does not put pressure on any part when held, making it comfortable to use for a long time.

Oppo Find X9 Pro

I also found the most noticeable change in the device is in the design of its camera bump which is now more similar to the Reno series. If Oppo previously used a round camera bump since the Find X6, this time they chose a more prominent square. Its thickness is also felt when holding the back of the device, especially around the bump.

Oppo Reno14 Pro

Although this change may receive various opinions, I still see it as Oppo's effort in adapting the design to the latest concept. This completely plastic camera bump still shows a smart approach when all the lenses are combined in one place. Each lens is also protected in the same bump, giving it a neater appearance.

Oppo Find X9 Pro

A metal frame is also used to place buttons and ports in a standard layout. On the right side there is a power button, audio adjustment and camera button. On the left side, there is a new feature called Snap Key, a multi-purpose button that allows quick access to various functions such as camera, screenshot, Mind Space and others.

Oppo Find X9 Pro

Among all these functions, Mind Space is the most prominent feature and will be explained in the internal software section. The top houses the infrared emitter while the bottom is equipped with a speaker grille, USB-C port and SIM card slot that supports dual nano SIM.

The device's speakers are stereo type with another grille located on the phone's handle. Although the sound is not completely balanced, it is not empty but rather quite suitable for daily use. Oppo also includes Holo Audio technology with sound effect settings that can be accessed when connected to additional devices such as speakers or earphones.

Through the OReality system, there are four sound profiles that can be selected, namely Smart, Movie, Gaming and Music, depending on the needs and usage environment. The Find X9 Pro also passes the IP68 and IP69 waterproof ratings, making it durable for daily use. The fingerprint scanner also works accurately and responsively.

In terms of the screen, there are no major changes except for its design, which is now completely flat. This device still maintains specifications such as a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen, 120Hz refresh rate and FHD Plus resolution, just like several previous Find X models.

The bezel is also slightly thinner than the Find X8 Pro, although this difference may be difficult to detect by ordinary users. However, technically, Oppo states that it is thinner and neater. The screen performance is at the level it should be for a flagship device. The display looks bright, clear and satisfying. It also supports Netflix with Widevine L1 certification for HD content viewing.

Internal Hardware – MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Chip

Mediatek Dimensity 9500 Chip

If included, the device is the first in Malaysia to use the Mediatek Dimensity 9500 chip. This chip is the most powerful from Mediatek to date and is designed to rival the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite. With a combination of 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, it offers a smooth user experience.

This device also supports up to 12GB of virtual RAM which can be manually changed to 4GB or 8GB as needed. Although the physical memory of 16GB of RAM is sufficient for most daily tasks, the presence of virtual RAM actually provides interesting added value in memory management. At the same time, it can improve multi-tasking capabilities and ensure system stability when running multiple applications simultaneously.

Device performance as well can be clearly seen through my daily usage experience which is very smooth and fast. The screen works well, applications open quickly, the download process runs and there are no system problems that are interrupted so far. In addition, the animation movement also seems smooth and stable without any noticeable lag.

I have received two software updates and they run smoothly. The screen can also detect my fingerprint accurately and quickly. It is not surprising that most of the current devices equipped with new chips, especially in the flagship category, are indeed able to offer satisfactory performance as I often emphasize in every one of my reviews.

However, the heat can still be felt. Although not too hot, the device still feels warm especially when used to run benchmark tests.

As usual, the game that I often test is Honor of Kings. This game can be played very smoothly at a frame rate of up to 120FPS using MAX and Ultra settings. The rate drop only occurs slightly around 115-118FPS but overall it remains stable at 120FPS even during battles involving many players. The graphics are also beautiful with smooth animations thus contributing to a satisfying gaming experience.

In addition, this device supports the Bypass Charging feature which is increasingly common in today's devices. This feature allows power to be directly supplied to the system without going through the battery, thus allowing users to play games at their best even when the device is charging. This not only helps reduce heat generation, but can also preserve battery life in long-term use.

Internal Software – ColorOS 16

Find X9 Pro uses the new ColorOS 16 software (based on Android 16) and the user experience is very smooth. The icon colors are still cheerful and neatly arranged. The transition animation between applications looks smooth, providing comfort during navigation. Some features are still maintained from the previous version, but there are also changes that resemble iOS. For example, the search field is now at the bottom of the screen like in iOS 26.

ColorOS 16 introduces a feature called Flux Themes and allows me to customize icons in various ways such as shape, size, color, angle and animation. This theme also allows the background image to be changed according to the style, for example Narrow for a more personalized display.

I can enlarge the background image and add widgets, adjust the clock and color, and even choose the layout on the left or right like on iPhone devices. The depth of the background image display can also be changed according to each person's taste.

ColorOS 16 also makes it easy to transfer data between iOS devices and makes the process fast, allowing me to share photos, videos and documents without problems. This is useful for users who frequently switch between Android and Apple. The camera has also been improved with the AI Highlight feature that helps produce more beautiful portrait photos and better lighting.

The home screen and lock screen have also been updated. The AOD feature can now be changed according to user preferences. The notification panel has two additions, one to select sound modes such as ring, vibrate or silent, and another to control mobile data. All of these can be customized according to their needs.

ColorOS 16 also comes with several AI features that make it easier for users to do their daily tasks, such as:

AI Mind Space allows me to automatically save notes and important information. The information provided is quite relevant and this feature works well, although not all users may take full advantage of it.

Snap to Mind Space allows me to quickly take screenshots via Snap Key and save them in collections such as Travel Collections. However, the Snap Key button is quite sensitive and can be pressed accidentally.

AI Suggest provides smart suggestions based on current activities such as work, entertainment and learning. It successfully detects my usage patterns well, for example, suggesting notes when I open work apps.

AI Assistant for Notes helps organize and summarize notes so that they are neater and easier to refer to. It is very useful for short notes.

AI Recording generates summaries from voice recordings such as meetings or interviews. It works, but sometimes there is information left out if the conversation is too complex.

AI Voice Transcribe automatically converts voice to text. I have tried it, but the accuracy is still lacking, especially during video calls like on Telegram.

Camera and Image Quality

In terms of performance, the Find X9 Pro's main camera produces saturated colors but the highlight control is still stable especially when recording in high-contrast situations such as bright skies. For users who have used the Hasselblad camera system on Oppo devices before, the colors produced feel similar because there is no significant change in terms of the color profile used.

In addition, the autofocus system is seen to work quickly, allowing subject detection to be done accurately even in moving conditions. Zoom performance also shows good capabilities because image sharpness is still maintained up to a maximum level of 120X thanks to the support of AI processing.

For macro shots, this mode can be activated automatically when the camera detects a subject at close range. However, for users who want additional control, there are two manual mode options, Fully Clarity and Natural Blur, each of which can produce good image quality according to their needs.

From left: Natural Blur & Full Clarity

Although the system sometimes takes a while to lock focus on macro subjects, the final result remains sharp once focus is achieved. However, in low or uncertain lighting conditions, colors may appear slightly inconsistent when switching from 0.6x to 6x zoom. However, night shots still look beautiful and stand out in terms of colors.

The ultra-wide shot does not show the extreme curvature effect, thus producing a more natural angle of view and resembling the view of the human eye.

This feature is even more noticeable when using the Hasselblad 50MP mode, which is designed to maintain angular accuracy and image quality. Compared to the normal setting which sometimes produces a little distortion, the Hasselblad mode provides more precise image processing with consistent results in terms of sharpness and colors.

Hasselblad 50MP Mode

The 200MP sensor produces slightly different color tones than the main camera, while still maintaining a high level of image sharpness. It is also suitable for shooting distant or small subjects more clearly. Although the post-recording process takes a little time, users do not need to maintain the device's position statically after pressing the record button. The maximum zoom supported is up to 3x optical zoom.

In portrait mode, the camera system manages to separate the subject from the background neatly, including small objects such as glasses and earrings. In addition, skin tones look natural without any defects, and there is also an option to add a beautification effect for those who want it.

Compared to the previous X8 Pro model, the background separation is found to be more accurate although still not perfect for men's curly hair. In addition, Oppo includes a function to manually adjust the aperture, either before or after the image is recorded, to provide more independent control over the background blur effect.

One thing I can touch on is Oppo's claim that the device's camera is capable of producing images as seen directly. Based on experience, this claim is difficult to refute because most photos taken using Hasselblad Mode at either 50MP or 200MP resolution show a good level of quality stability.

Interestingly, in various recording ranges such as ultra wide, 1x zoom and 3x the image resolution produced is still consistent with the specifications of the sensor used. For example, recordings from a 50MP sensor will be recorded as 50MP while a 200MP sensor also displays the actual resolution.

However, this aspect is more technical and may not have a big impact on ordinary users. Generally, they only prioritize clear and attractive image results without examining the details of the resolution in depth.

For video recording, the quality produced is very sharp especially when using 4K120FPS resolution. Colors look more attractive when HDR Video (Dolby Vision) mode is activated because it provides a brighter display with balanced contrast.

On the other hand, if it is turned off, there is a slight change in color tone although the difference is not very noticeable. The video stabilization system works well and smoothly even when the device is in a state of a lot of movement. Meanwhile, the autofocus performance is also found to be satisfactory with fast and accurate response throughout the recording.

In LOG video mode, the colors produced look flat and suitable for the editing process. Users are also given the option to use LUTs such as Rec709 and HLG, along with additional settings such as ISO, focus peaking and histogram. Therefore, this mode is more suitable for those who want to produce recordings with a professional approach.

The Find X9 Pro camera button provides satisfactory haptic feedback when pressed, but is not accompanied by a noticeable physical click. In terms of recording performance, the post-recording process sometimes takes a while to complete, especially when involving high resolution or complex video settings.

OPPO also provides an additional photography kit that includes several accessories including a teleconverter. This accessory needs to be attached to a special shell that comes with the Hasselblad mode via the ‘More’ settings. Once installed, this system will activate the 3.8X zoom by default, and the recording results show a higher level of clarity than regular digital zoom. This kit is however sold separately.

Battery And Fast Charging

The battery used has a capacity of 7500mAh and uses silicon anode technology. Based on my experience using this device, the battery performance is very satisfactory and is able to support active use throughout the day.

In the first session, I achieved a Screen on Time (SOT) of almost 11 hours 50 minutes with 2% battery remaining indicating heavy use. In the second session, the SOT was 7 hours 5 minutes and the battery still remained 62% indicating lighter use. The third session recorded a SOT of 6 hours 14 minutes and the battery remained stable. This shows that this battery performs well and can last more than a day depending on the way of use.

Through ColorOS 16, I found that the battery display also changed with the addition of several new elements. Among them are the estimated battery life and usage mode options such as Balanced Mode, Power Saving Mode, and High Performance Mode, complete with recommended duration for each mode.

When using Superpower Saving Mode, the battery can last longer after reaching a certain level. The battery usage display is also now shown in the form of a bar graph, compared to the line graph in ColorOS 15. In addition, the color design is more cheerful and there is a display of battery usage percentage by application, which makes it easier for me to see how long each application is used.

This device supports 80W fast charging which allows the battery to be fully charged in less than an hour. The charging head and cable are also still included in the purchase box. In addition, this device also supports wireless charging. However, I did not try it because there is no need to use the function at this time. In addition, this device also supports bypass charging.

Conclusion

Find X9 Pro is a flagship device that features a premium design and high specifications. Although there is no significant improvement in screen specifications compared to the previous model, it still offers an AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. In addition, the device is powered by a high-performance chip that supports the use of multiple applications simultaneously and heavy graphics tasks with stable performance.

In addition, the main camera system developed in collaboration with Hasselblad provides better photography capabilities, including more detailed image processing and an improved portrait mode. The combination of all these features makes the Find X9 Pro a suitable choice for users who prioritize performance, quality display and efficiency in one versatile device.
