Qantas has confirmed that the data of 5.7 million customers has been leaked to the web after a third-party company's systems were hacked in July. The majority of the customer data leaked was in the form of names, email addresses and airline membership numbers.
A small portion of the customer data revealed home addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, gender and food preferences. The Australian airline said no credit card information, personal financial information or passwords were affected by the hack.
However, the leaked information could still be used for online identity fraud if it fell into the wrong hands.
