Qualcomm Announces AI200 and AI250 Data Center AI Chips

Qualcomm dominated the smartphone chip market before expanding into PC chips. Yesterday, they announced two chips, the Qualcomm AI200 and Qualcomm AI250, designed specifically for inference tasks in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

The AI200 is equipped with 768GB of LPDDR RAM, making it suitable for training language models (LLM) with multimodal support. Qualcomm says the AI200 will reduce the chip's cost of ownership compared to competitors. The AI chip will be launched in 2026.

Meanwhile, the AI250 will introduce a memory architecture that will offer more than 10x the effective memory bandwidth and lower power consumption. Detailed specifications of the AI250 have not yet been revealed, with it set to launch in 2027.

Both can use liquid cooling, use 160 kW of power, and are offered in full-rack systems equipped with 72 chips that act as a single computer. Although the chip has just been announced, it has already been confirmed to be used by Humain, the Saudi Arabian AI firm that previously launched the largest Arabic LLM that understands every aspect of Islamic culture and they announced their own laptop using the Qualcomm chip last month.
