xAI Also Wants to Develop a World Model for Robotics

xAI is Elon Musk's answer to OpenAI and Google with huge investments by the world's richest man to win the artificial intelligence (AI) war. Despite the huge investments, technologies like Grok have not yet received a large response compared to ChatGPT, Sora or Gemini.

The next project carried out by xAI is to develop a world model for robotics and video games, according to a Financial Times report. To realize this dream, Musk has hired Zeeshan Patel and Ethan He who previously worked at NVIDIA. They are involved in the development of world models at NVIDIA under the Omniverse banner.

At NVIDIA, Omniverse has been used to train self-driving vehicle systems, robotic systems that are equivalent to hundreds of years of training and a twin to the Earth that can predict weather and climate change. Musk has previously shared on X that he believes that video games generated entirely by AI will be developed by xAI in the near future.

The long-term plan for this world model project can also improve the FSD capabilities of Tesla vehicles and allow the Optimus robot to function better in the real world. The FSD in its current iteration still isn't capable of traveling from the East Coast to the West Coast as Musk promised five years ago. Meanwhile, plans to build thousands of Optimus this year have reportedly been delayed due to a variety of unresolved issues. This hasn't been helped by Tesla and xAI losing staff to competitors.
