The LRT 3 service or its official name, the Shah Alam route, will start operations starting December 31. This is three months later than the original date of September 30. This was confirmed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke himself yesterday. The LRT 3 is currently undergoing the final phase of testing and commissioning.
The Shah Alam route LRT is the fourth rail transit service in the Klang Valley and will be operated by Rapid KL. The route will have 25 stations, which for the first time are located outside the boundaries of Kuala Lumpur City. It connects Bandar Utama station in Petaling with Johan Setia station in Klang.
The construction of this route cost RM21.93 billion, which is lower than the original estimated cost of RM31.65 billion when approved in 2015. When operational, it will be able to carry up to 39,260 passengers per hour.
