Azure Successfully Prevents World's Largest Cloud DDoS Attack at 15.72 Tbps

The first distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack was carried out on September 6, 1996. Year after year, these attacks that paralyze online services have become larger and more advanced.

Microsoft Azure recently reported that they have successfully prevented the largest cloud DDoS attack ever recorded, reaching 15.72 Tbps with the transmission of 3.64 billion packets per second (pps) through more than 500,000 IPs from around the world. This attack was detected on October 24 on a server located in Australia.

The attack was carried out using the Aisuru botnet, which is a Turbo Mirai-class botnet. Cameras and routers exploited by Aisuru are used to carry out DDoS attacks. Azure says that with the increasing speed of fiber optics to the home and IoT devices becoming more powerful, DDoS attacks like this will continue to increase.

This attack on Azure is the highest for a cloud system. However, the largest DDoS attack ever recorded occurred on September 23 at a rate of 22.2 Tbps/ 10.6 billion pps according to Cloudflare's report.
