The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission today ordered a temporary ban on the artificial intelligence service generated under xAI, namely Grok. The ban is effective from January 11, 2026. MCMC said the ban will be implemented until effective protection measures are implemented for the service, especially preventing content involving women and children.
Previously, Grok was seen repeatedly generating pornographic content, extremely offensive sexual and indecent content, as well as manipulated images without consent.
MCMC said it had issued notices to X and xAI on January 3, 2026 and January 8, 2026 in order to implement technical protection measures. However, X's response failed to address the existing risks that exist.
Currently, telecommunications companies have not yet implemented a full ban on Grok, and it can still be accessed through the X service, or downloaded through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
