For a long time, many have been ready to make complaints involving fraudulent ads on social media, especially through Facebook and Instagram. In fact, recently, it was revealed that Meta generates almost 10% of its advertising revenue through these fraudulent ads.
Commenting on this, MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) has now stated that it will call Meta to provide an official explanation regarding this matter. MCMC will also begin an investigation into this scam advertising on social media.
MCMC said that as of early November 2025 alone, MCMC has made 157,208 requests to take down advertisements for illegal activities online, and 44,922 were fraudulent ads. Many are ready to see various pictures of figures and influencers used in these scam and fraudulent ads.
MCMC said that the number on the Meta platform is much higher than others. MCMC also emphasized that if it is proven that the platform intentionally aids or abets in illegal activities, appropriate action will be taken.
