Roblox has pledged to improve user safety through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and human monitoring. The company also expressed its willingness to work with the Malaysian government, especially in terms of data sharing and compliance with established regulations.
The matter was shared by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, through an update on Facebook. In the statement, she expressed concerns about the safety of children using online gaming platforms such as Roblox. Hannah stressed that the digital world should not only be fun but should also play a role in shaping the character and values of the young generation.
She also expressed concerns about the impact of technology on children's behavior and emotions, especially when not properly monitored by parents or guardians. According to her, continuous monitoring is very important to ensure that children's digital experiences are always safe.
The concern is also linked to a tragic incident involving a six-year-old boy who was injured after being slashed by his nine-year-old brother. According to police, the incident is believed to have stemmed from the brother's frustration when the Roblox game he was playing was interrupted, causing him to lose all the points he had collected.
With a reach of over 100 million users worldwide, including over a million in Malaysia, Roblox takes on a huge responsibility to ensure user safety is always maintained and cannot be taken lightly.
