Roblox Mandatory Age Verification for Chat Access

Roblox has introduced a new security policy by requiring age verification for all users who want to access the chat function. Through this measure, users will have to present identification documents or take a facial scan before using the feature. The policy will be enforced in Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands in December before expanding to global markets early next year.

The measure also allows the chat process to be age-based, thus limiting communication between children and adults. The age verification process is implemented through Facial Age Estimation technology in the Roblox application. According to Roblox, all images used in the verification process will be deleted once processed to ensure user privacy is preserved.

After the age verification, users will be placed in groups: under 9, 9–12, 13–15, 16–17, 18–20 and 21+. They are only allowed to chat with people of the same or similar age groups as specified. Exceptions are granted through the Trusted Connections function, which allows interaction with family members or close acquaintances.

Additionally, age verification will be required for access to social media links and content creator collaborations in Roblox Studio early next year. This move complements more than 145 safety policies since January 2025, ensuring a safer and age-appropriate communication experience.
