The two most commonly used HDR formats on modern devices are Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Both of these formats are quite old and after Dolby Vision 2 was announced last September, Samsung also announced HDR10+ Advanced.
With HDR10+ Advanced, content up to 4000-5000 nits of brightness and 100% BT.2020 will be supported. Content has metadata for more accurate color tone mapping. It can also automatically change HDR settings based on the genre being watched. For example, brighter colors for sports content and more natural for drama content.
The Motion Smoothing feature will also be improved while gaming features will also receive enhanced HDR support. Samsung says HDR10+ Advanced will be supported on their TVs that will be launched next year with a demo to be shown at CES. So far, only Amazon has confirmed that it will offer HDR10+ Advanced content on their platform.
