Today President Trump said that NVIDIA Blackwell chips will not be sold to “other people” with the advantage going to local companies. But last weekend, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that his company does not have an issue with getting AI chips but is facing an issue with a lack of power for the data centers it wants to build.
In the podcast show Bg2 Pod, Satya said that it is difficult to build data centers near power sources. The AI data centers it wants to build require large amounts of data in the amount of GW. This is equivalent to the power required by a residential area with tens of thousands of people.
This is the reason why Microsoft is restarting the Three Mile Island nuclear power station that was shut down in 2019 in collaboration with the company Constellation. The use of nuclear energy will reduce Microsoft’s carbon footprint because nuclear energy is classified as a cleaner energy source.
In addition to them, Google and Meta are also collaborating with companies that are developing modular nuclear reactors. Meanwhile, in China, a “man-made sun” is being developed to build a nuclear fusion reactor that can theoretically offer unlimited electrical power.
