Qualcomm has just introduced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, its latest flagship chip designed to deliver powerful performance at a more affordable price.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 comes with the Oryon CPU which houses two main cores at 3.8GHz and six performance cores at 3.32GHz. The new Adreno GPU offers an 11% increase in performance and 28% energy efficiency, with even intensive games like Genshin Impact reportedly using 39% less power than the Gen 3. In addition, the Hexagon NPU also supports AI-based tasks, but its performance is slightly below the Elite version.
The Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite is provided with support for Qualcomm aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless audio, in addition to Qualcomm Expanded Personal Area Network (XPAN) technology. The chip is also equipped with Qualcomm Aqstic Speaker Max with a Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise (THD+N) level as low as -108 dB and Qualcomm Audio and Voice Communication Suite which supports spatial audio with head tracking function.
In terms of display, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 supports resolutions up to QHD+ 240Hz, while LPDDR5X memory with a maximum capacity of 24GB completes the overall performance. It is also equipped with a Qualcomm Spectra Image Signal Processor with triple 20‑bit AI ISP that supports HDR video recording. In addition, it also offers camera support up to 320MP with 8K/30FPS video recording.
