Apple's Head of Interface Design Moves to Meta

Alan Dye, Apple's Vice President of Interface Design since 2015, will leave the company and join Meta on December 31, 2025. He was personally recruited by Mark Zuckerberg and will lead a new creative studio at Meta Reality Labs alongside Billy Sorrentino, Dye's assistant at Apple. Dye's duties are now being taken over by Steve Lemay, an Apple veteran since 1999.

Dye has been at Apple for nearly 20 years and is the successor to Jony Ive after the prominent designer left the company. While at Apple, Dye was involved in the project to create the Liquid Glass interface and the development of visionOS for the Vision Pro. His hiring gives Meta a clear indication of the process of creating new hardware at Reality Labs.

In Threads, Mark Zuckerberg said that the Dye-led studio will combine design, fashion and technology to define the next generation of products and user experiences.
