Ford Now Producing Battery Packs for Data Center Needs

Ford was the first company to mass-produce cars, allowing the Model T to be sold at an affordable price. The factory technique with moving production is still in use today, 112 years after Henry Ford invented it. Despite being a pioneer in car production, Ford's efforts in the electric car (EV) arena have been less successful and are now entering the power supply arena using battery packs.

Their EV battery pack production plant in Kentucky, which was not very popular, is now being converted to produce battery packs for data centers. They will invest $2 billion with a target of producing 20 GWhr of battery packs per year starting in 2027. It will be marketed to data centers, utility companies and large-scale industrial companies.

The battery pack production business for industrial needs is done through a partnership with SK On, SK Battery America, and BlueOval SK. The change in the scope of battery production for EVs to industrial power needs was done because Ford's EV sales were not encouraging. Sales decreased after EV purchase credits were no longer offered by the government.
