The HDMI Licensing Administrator (HDMI LA) is the body responsible for introducing new technologies related to screen display connections, with the latest HDMI 2.2 format being introduced in the middle of this year.
They will also be showcasing a number of gaming-related visual technologies during the CES 2026 event, including three new cables: the Ultra96 HDMI Cable, Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable and Premium High Speed HDMI Cable.
The Ultra96 cable in particular supports data transfer rates of up to 96Gbps and supports refresh rates of up to 500Hz on the Microsoft Xbox Series X gaming console, and for powerful gaming computers, this cable is seen supporting displays with a resolution of 16K with a refresh rate of 60FPS, 8K 60 FPS Full Chroma and 4K 240 FPS for an unparalleled high-resolution gaming experience.
Meanwhile, the Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable will come with a data transfer rate of 48Gbps while the Premium High Speed Cable has a data transfer rate of 18Gbps.
In addition to the Xbox Series X demo, HDMI LA will be showing a demo with the Nintendo Switch 2 console where the console will not only be connected to a large screen display, but will also come with high-resolution audio support via HDMI eARC connection with dramatically reduced latency.
Other gaming features that HDMI LA will be showing include Variable Refresh Rate support, Auto Low Latency Mode and Quick Frame Transport which are seen to help in reducing the latency of data transmission from the console/computer to the display.
