Meta is currently reportedly developing a new version of their language model that will be the next-generation successor to Llama. Internally, it is codenamed “Avocado”.
According to a CNBC report, Meta is aiming to introduce this model in the first quarter of 2026. The introduction of this new model is expected to continue Meta’s competition in this arena.
For your information, Mark Zuckerberg is ready to announce high investments in the artificial intelligence arena, including introducing Meta AI widely to everyone through integration on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. However, for this year, they are seen experiencing delays and technical challenges in development – making their new model not receive much attention compared to Google and OpenAI.
Mark Zuckerberg himself has tried to overcome this problem by getting various experts and workers to Meta, and offering them high remuneration. Meta was previously ready to offer Llama in open source form. Initial reports said that “Avocado” may not be offered in open source form to developers.
With the pressure on Meta in this arena, Mark Zuckerberg certainly doesn't want to give in, and will come up with an offering that is comparable to others - not to mention their focus on the smart glasses arena which requires an AI model to power it.
