Netflix Ends Google Cast Support on Most Smart TVs and TV Boxes

Silently and without any notification, Netflix ended support for the Google Cast feature on the majority of smart TVs and TV boxes on the market. The newly updated app no longer supports the feature that allows content watched through the Netflix app on a smartphone to be cast to a smart TV by pressing the Google Cast button, which is usually in the upper right corner.

According to the Netflix FAQ page, Google Cast support is no longer supported on devices that have their own remote controls such as smart TVs, TV boxes and Chromecast with Google TV dongles. Support only continues on devices without a remote control such as the first-generation Chromecast.

On Android devices, the Google Cast logo is no longer displayed in the Netflix app. On iOS devices, the Google Cast logo is still there but when pressed, no device can be detected.

Previously, Google Cast support was only supported if the user subscribed to an advertising-supported plan. Now all users regardless of the plan they subscribed to cannot use this feature.
