Apple stopped using Intel chips in its Mac products since 2020 because it was replaced by the Apple M1 chip. It is a comprehensive change to the Arm architecture and allows for chips specific to their needs to be fully controlled. But according to leading analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will return to using chips manufactured by Intel by mid-2027.
According to him, Apple is in talks to use Intel's foundry to produce the Apple M6 or M7 chips. Intel's 18A technology will be used to manufacture these chips in the United States. At this point, the Apple M chips are manufactured by TSMC through their foundries in Taiwan and Arizona.
By using Intel's foundry, Apple is seen as being able to meet the needs of the Donald Trump administration who wants advanced technology manufacturing to be returned to the United States. For Intel, they can return to working with Apple and get customers for their foundry business.
