In October 2022, the government introduced the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) to assist Malaysians who have been affected by the frequent financial fraud incidents that occurred at that time.
Previously, the NSRC office was located at Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur with a capacity to take 300 to 400 phone calls a day from 8.00am to 8.00pm daily. The NSRC has now moved its office to Tower 2 of the Communications and Multimedia Commission in Cyberjaya, increasing its staffing around the clock and can now receive 500 to 700 calls a day.
In an interview with Bernama with Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, he said that the Honorable Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will officiate the opening of the new NSRC office next month, on a date to be announced.
The NSRC was developed in collaboration with various government bodies, including MCMC, the Royal Malaysian Police, Bank Negara Malaysia and the National Financial Crimes Prevention Centre, but operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Home Affairs and will be constantly updated to ensure that incidents related to financial fraud can always be reported quickly and resolved as quickly as possible.
