Two weeks after Micron announced that it would stop producing consumer memory components with the closure of Crucial, it is now being reported that Samsung will end production of SATA SSDs for consumers.
This comes from Moore’s Law is Dead, a well-known leaker who claims that Samsung will soon be ending production of SATA SSDs entirely.
SATA SSDs are not as popular as they once were among PC builders, with many of them already using M.2 SSDs as their primary choice, but SATA storage is still widely used by PC builders, especially those used by small, medium and corporate businesses.
If it is true that Samsung is ending production of SATA SSDs, it means that the price of these components will also increase, possibly making the price of more “affordable” PCs even more expensive.
Although Samsung has not issued an official statement at this time, Moore's Law is Dead says that a number of component suppliers have said that the matter has been known before, and is not a new decision.
