Selangor JPJ Uses Body Cameras to Improve Operational Integrity

The Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) began using body cameras last week to improve integrity while on duty. Visual and audio recordings from these body cameras can be used as valid supporting evidence. At the same time, their use is intended to protect officers from misunderstandings, unfounded accusations or harassment while performing their duties.

It is understood that the use of body cameras is not solely to punish but also serves to educate and ensure vehicle owners comply with load limits and road safety standards. Strict and uncompromising action will continue to be taken against any party who violates the rules. Selangor JPJ now has 27 newly used body camera units and so far only field enforcement officers, counter staff and vehicle inspection officers are equipped with the device.

Looking back, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) began implementing a pilot project to use body cameras in 2024 before expanding it in stages. In addition, the Customs Department also introduced body cameras as part of its integrity initiative after conducting tests since 2023.
