Sony has launched its new full-frame camera, the Alpha 7 V. It comes with a 33MP full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor and a 5-axis IBIS stabilization system. This image stabilization function also offers Dynamic Active Mode which allows for more stable video recording even when held by hand. In addition, it is matched with the new BIONZ XR 2 image processing chip with a more advanced AI Processing Unit.
Sony explains that this combination can improve AI-based subject recognition capabilities by up to 30%, thus providing faster autofocus capabilities. The camera also offers better battery life thanks to a more energy-efficient processor with the ability to shoot up to 750 shots per full charge.
The camera is equipped with a 759-point PDAF focusing system. It also supports 4K video recording up to 120p which allows for slow motion up to 5x with clear resolution. Meanwhile, for Full HD recording, frame rates of up to 240fps are available and allow for slow motion playback of up to 10x (24p in S&Q mode).
The camera also comes with an Auto Framing function that automatically maintains the composition of the subject during recording through AI-based recognition. The ISO range is between 100 and 51,200 for photo and video recording. In addition, this camera supports various formats including 4:2:2 10-bit, Long GOP, S-Log3 and All Intra.
Complementing this camera is a Quad-VGA OLED EVF with 3.686 million dots. It is also matched with a 3.2-inch screen with 2.1 million dots (3:2 aspect ratio) that can be rotated to the side and front for self-portraits or self-video recording.
The camera also supports CFexpress Type A memory cards and is equipped with two USB Type-C ports. In addition, the noise reduction function along with the built-in microphone enhancements ensure better audio recording by continuously reducing background noise.
The Alpha 7 V will go on sale for $2,899 (around RM11,955) starting this month. However, the official price for the Malaysian market has not yet been announced.
