Taiwan has now announced that it will ban access to the Xiaohongshu service, also known as Red Note, for a year. Taiwan says this is due to security risks, involving more than 1,700 fraud cases since 2024.
Xiaohongshu is one of the most popular social applications, including in Malaysia, offering a user experience similar to that of Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok combined. It is said to have around 3 million users in Taiwan.
Xiaohongshu is also said to lack a local team to comply with regulations and laws in Taiwan. The ministry is expected to issue an order to block internet access for the application for a period of one year.
The ministry in Taiwan has also asked users not to download it, and if they are ready to download it, to stop using it.
