Welcome to China, the United States, where you will have to disclose up to five years of social media usage history before being allowed to set foot in the country. According to the latest directive from the Trump administration, visitors from 42 countries will be required to share their personal social media accounts along with their usage history.
This is among the 40 countries that can enter the United States without a visa, such as the UK, Singapore, Brunei, Germany and South Korea. Those who pass the screening process will be allowed to stay in America for 3 months. In addition to social media usage history, Customs and Border Protection will also collect emails, phone numbers used in the past five years, as well as addresses and names of family members.
For Malaysians, this new directive will not have an impact because sharing all social media has been required to apply for a travel visa since 2019. This year, all individual applicants for F, M or J non-immigrant visas will have to change the settings for their social media accounts to public so that their content can be checked.
