Amazon announced it will lay off 16,000 corporate employees, equivalent to 10% of its current corporate workforce. Since October 2025, Amazon has laid off about 30,000 under CEO Andy Jassy’s strategy to reduce bureaucracy, close underperforming businesses, and improve the company’s efficiency.
The employees affected include employees at Amazon Fresh and Go physical stores that sell groceries, the discontinuation of the Amazon One biometric payment system, as well as employees in AWS, Alexa, Prime Video, devices, advertising, Kindle, and logistics.
As previously stated, Amazon’s use of AI allows more tasks to be automated while reducing the need for corporate manpower
