Tesla will discontinue production of the Model S and Model X starting Q2 2026 to make way for the Tesla Roaster and humanoid robot Optimus. This was announced by Elon Musk when announcing Tesla's financial report this morning.
The Model S and Model X are two older models that have lower sales compared to the Model 3 and Model Y. Because they are too old, both have never been offered to customers in Malaysia. The Roadster will be shown again in April. This super EV project was announced in 2017 and the launch has actually been long awaited.
The third-generation Optimus will be announced in just a few months, according to Musk. Full production of the robot is before the end of 2026, depending on the supply chain. Musk also revealed that Optimus is still in the testing process with its use on the Tesla factory floor still only for learning and not to assist in the vehicle assembly process at this time.
