The end of the EV incentive for imported fully built (CBU) electric vehicles which ends in 2025 has resulted in various electric vehicles being sold at higher prices. Some manufacturers have a strategy to produce EVs assembled in Malaysia to offer EVs at a more affordable price. BMW Motorrad Malaysia is no different when they updated the prices of their electric motorcycles, namely the BMW CE 04 and BMW CE 02.
For a price update after the end of the EV incentive for imported electric vehicles, the BMW CE 04 electric scooter which was sold at RM 59,500 in 2023 is now sold at RM 97,000, while the BMW CE 02 electric scooter which was originally sold at RM 38,500 in 2024 is now sold at RM 52,000. This price increase is almost double the original price.
The BMW CE 04 was introduced in 2023 and sold for RM 59,500. It is an electric scooter with a power of 31 kW (42 hp), which is almost the same as a 400cc engine. This electric scooter can accelerate from 0-50 km/h in 2.6 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 120km/h. With an 8.9kW battery, it provides a range of up to 130 KM WMTC and is complete with various advanced accessories such as a 10.25-inch display, as well as safety functions such as ABS, Dynamic driving and many more.
The BMW CE 02 went on sale in 2024 at a price of RM 38,500 and is also the only BMW motorcycle that can be ridden by B2 license holders. Being in the 'kapcai' class or what BMW calls an e-Parkourer, the BMW CE 02 has a travel range of up to 90 KM WMTC, a maximum power of 11 kW (15hp) with a maximum speed of 95 km/h.
At the BMW event yesterday which introduced the BMW i5 assembled in Malaysia, they also shared that to date more than 120 units of the BMW CE 04 have been sold, while the BMW CE 02 has sold more than 170 units for the year 2025 alone. Although the EV incentive for imported electric vehicles has ended, various other brands will assemble EVs in Malaysia to offer at a more affordable price, and several other brands have even expressed their commitment to maintaining the existing price, among them Tesla which stated that the price of the Model 3 and Model Y will remain the same.
