Long traffic jams due to road blocks often cause inconvenience to users because the narrowed traffic lanes slow down the flow of vehicles. This matter has received the attention of Transport Minister, Anthony Loke who suggested that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) switch to a new approach so that enforcement is more effective without affecting the smooth flow of traffic.
He explained that Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology can be a solution because it no longer depends entirely on physical barriers. Through the combination of data and the use of ANPR cameras, checks can be carried out automatically without having to stop vehicles on the road.
Anthony also informed that PLUS has discussed with JPJ on the implementation of the ANPR system. He is confident that if this system is integrated, it will not only function for non-stop toll collection but also for road law enforcement. In fact, he also believes that the move will be followed by other highways since millions of vehicles use the highway every day.
