Ministry of Digital Develops MyIKD to Reduce Technology Gap

The Ministry of Digital is developing the Malaysia Digital Inclusivity Index (MyIKD) or Digital Inclusivity Index Malaysia (DIIM) as an effort to further strengthen the planning and monitoring of digital inclusion across the country. MyIKD is a centralized database that aims to measure the digital gap in Malaysian society.

MyIKD allows the government to continuously monitor the digital gap among the community by specifically measuring it. The results of the study will be used to help the government design more targeted interventions.

The digital gap in Malaysia began to receive much attention during the pandemic when rural students faced problems attending online classes and lectures due to poor internet connections. Cases of students having to sit on trees and hang their phones from poles simply to get a more stable internet connection went viral.
