Stack Overflow is one of the forum-based sites that developers refer to if they encounter problems in development, or to discuss something involving development or programming. However, since the presence of artificial intelligence, traffic to the site has dropped sharply.
This is because many people now ask questions directly to AI models such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Copilot and others, and will receive answers faster. In fact, with voice support, the matter seems to be resolved with AI itself helping to solve programming problems.
According to the data collected, last December, Stack Overflow only received 6,866 questions, about the same as in 2008. At its peak, Stack Overflow once received almost 300,000 questions a month, which was in 2020.
However, despite its sudden decrease in traffic, Stack Overflow has continued to operate successfully as a company, by choosing to license content to artificial intelligence companies.
