Taiwan Reportedly Issues Arrest Warrant for OnePlus CEO Pete Lau



Taiwanese authorities have now issued an arrest warrant for OnePlus CEO Pete Lau for illegally hiring workers in the country. OnePlus is said to have illegally hired around 70 engineers in Taiwan.


According to the warrant, OnePlus is said to have opened a shell company in Hong Kong, and then opened a branch in Taiwan without permission from the authorities. This is said to have happened in 2015. For your information, under Taiwan law, Chinese companies must obtain permission from the Taiwanese government before they can hire workers in Taiwan.


The division in Taiwan is said to focus more on research and development, and the software developed is used in OnePlus and Oppo phones. Two people who conspired in managing the operations in Taiwan have also been charged, while an arrest warrant has been issued for Pete Lau.
