TikTok's US business was sold to a new entity last week with the country's user data and algorithms being different from global TikTok. Since the acquisition of TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, users in the US have complained about the app now asking for users' locations more precisely and recently claiming that controversial content is now being censored.
The hottest issue in the US is the anti-ICE activist shot dead in Minnesota last weekend. American TikTok users claim that videos touching on this topic are being blocked because the video fails to upload or takes a long time to be published. They also claim that when a search for "ICE Minnesota" is done, videos criticizing ICE and Donald Trump do not appear, instead TikTok will provide videos about snow or ice cream.
American TikTok has issued a denial that they are censoring content touching on controversial content. The problem with uploading videos is due to a power outage at their data center. They are working to restore the operation of all data centers to prevent the same issue from happening again.
