In November last year, Android was updated to allow it to send files to iPhones using the Quick Share feature but via the AirDrop protocol. It was a long-requested feature that would make cross-platform file sharing easier as required by the European Union (EU) DMA Bill. But at launch, it was only supported on Google Pixel 10 series devices.
Now, Eric Kay, Vice President of Engineering at Google, says that this feature will be expanded to all Android devices this year, according to a report by Android Authority. The feature is still in testing but signs that it will be provided have been detected after the Quick Share Extension was recently updated. In addition to sending to iPhones, Quick Share can also send files to iPads, MacBooks and Macs.
So far, supporting cross-operating system file transfers has only been possible through third-party applications such as LocalSend. Chinese devices such as Oppo and Xiaomi have also implemented their own systems to bring cross-platform support
