In the movie Real Steel, humanoid robots fight in the ring by replacing humans in boxing until they are destroyed. Who would have thought that the 2011 fiction Real Steel has now become a reality after the Ultimate Robot Knockout Legend (UKRL) league was established in Shenzhen, China.
In the UKRL league, two T800 robots from the company EngineAI are controlled by a program created by humans to fight in the ring. All teams in the UKRL use the same robot with the controller's skills to ensure victory. The winner of the league will be awarded a prize worth RMB 10 million (~RM 5.67 million).
Each T800 is made of aluminum and is 173cm tall. Although originally designed to work in factories, hotels and perform tasks alongside humans, the T800 is also given fighting capabilities. At CES, EngineAI showed a demo of two robots fighting on their own in the ring with the ability to punch, kick and perform 360-degree jump kicks like video game characters.
