Intel has just launched their latest laptop processor series, the Intel Core Ultra 300 Series “Panther Lake” which will be used to power most of their thin and light laptops and also a number of their gaming laptops.
One advantage shown in this new processor series is the use of the Intel Xe3 graphics processor chip which is an updated Intel Battlemage graphics processor chip and comes with gaming and graphics processing capabilities that are seen to be quite powerful.
Intel is expected to launch the Intel Alder Lake Refresh processor chip this April, but the public’s focus seems to be more towards the launch of the Intel Nova Lake or Intel Core Ultra Series 400 chip series which will be introduced at the end of this year.
Recently, there have been several reports confirming that the processor series will come with a graphics chip built from the Intel Xe3P series or better known as “Celestial”, the third model in the Intel processor series.
This is reported to be valid because Intel has uploaded a driver update for the Linux operating system that lists three IP blocks, including Xe3p_LPG, Xe3p_LPM and Xe3p_LPD. This refers to “Graphics” for graphics processing capabilities for games, “media” for media processing such as images and videos and “Display” for display capabilities.
This separation of graphics “tasks” is not new, and has been introduced since Intel’s Meteor Lake processors, and has been updated for each iteration of Intel’s Xe graphics processors over the years.
Similar to the Intel Core Ultra 200 chips, only select models are expected to be equipped with this graphics processing chip, and it is expected that certain models (such as the Intel Core Ultra X9 and Ultra X7) will come with this graphics chip, and other models will be equipped with the old graphics chip option.
The Intel Xe3 "Battlemage" chip used in the Intel Core Ultra 200 series of processor chips is seen as very good for gaming purposes, and it is expected that the Xe3P, which is produced using Intel's latest technology process, will come with more powerful graphics processing capabilities.
